Features of a Cooperative Society

Cooperative society is an autonomous association of persons united voluntarily to meet their common economic, social and cultural needs and aspirations through a jointly owned, democratically controlled and professionally managed enterprise. Cooperatives are community based organizations organized and registered under the Assam Coop Societies Act, 2007 with the chief objective to promote the Socio-Economic condition of its shareholders based on principles of cooperation which are-

  1. Voluntary and open Membership
  2. Democratic Member Control
  3. Member Economic Participation
  4. Autonomy and Independence
  5. Education, Training and Information
  6. Co-operation among Cooperatives Societies
  7. Concern for Community

There are two offices of the department in Barpeta district-
